One thing you will learn after staying in the school for some time is that you will all become a family. It is a great chance for character building and confidence.

I had studied a little wushu before coming to the school which made some of the basics feel more familiar, but nothing could prepare me for the experience that this school had to offer me!

I stayed at the school for 2 months, and after being away from the school for a month i decided to come back to visit as I missed it so much. One thing you will learn after staying in the school for some time is that you will all become a family. The students are your brothers and sisters, the masters and translators are like your parents...and everyone tries to make the experience within the school as easy as possible.

I would just like to start off by saying that, it is quite obvious when reading through the other students references that as far as training and the Masters go if you want to learn traditional Shaolin Kung-Fu and you have the ways, means and guts to go halfway around the world to do it, then this is definitely place to go!!So I will not say too much about that.

Besides the top quality training there are the people that you will meet, train and live with and, I must say that living at the academy for a year, I had the great privilege of meeting many awesome people from all over the world and from many walks of life which just adds to the experience.

Admitedly there will be days when you can’t face training, if you can learn to push through this i think you will truly experience training the Chinese way.

I had never studied martial arts before arriving at Mailing Shan, with that in mind i was rather worried that everyone there would be well above me and i would learn far slower than anyone else. This however was not true at all, the masters teach you at a pace that you can deal with no matter your skill or how fast you pick something up.

The best thing about this academy for me was its peaceful environment. There are no more things to worry about here, and you can truly dedicate all of your time to training and doing what you love to do.

I've trained martial arts, including kung fu, taekwondo and kick-box, for 2-3 years before coming to China, and I honestly thought I had a good amount of basic knowledge. But I soon realized there is no comparison. One month of training here is sometimes the equivalent of a whole year of training back at home. But it's also ten times more demanding and tiring, and requires a lot of self-discipline and a positive attitude and spirit. But I think if you like martial arts, this won't hold you back.
