Student Activities

Free Time &Weekends

Although the training at our academy is intense, students can still enjoy some free time during the weekdays and the weekends.

During weekdays after lunch, there is a break for about two hours. Most students will take a nap during this break to restore energy for the afternoon training. As in most western countries, people do not generally sleep during the day, but this is a habit that students gradually form after some time, as they find it really comfortable and relaxing.

There are also afternoons and evenings during the week when you can attend voluntary Mandarin & calligraphy & Massage classes. Students can choose to attend those classes if they are interested, or they can spend time doing what they like: train on their own or with others, watch a movie together, catch up with family & friends, or simply rest.

In the weekends, there are a lot things to do, such as training / practicing on your own, laundry, grocery shopping and getting a massage in the city, get together with friends, go fishing and hiking in the mountain area, play pool, Ping-Pong, badminton, Chinese chess, musical instruments, read, listen to music, watch TV series & movies, sing karaoke in the schoo’s common room, etc. (All the facilities are free to use)

Group Tours & Holidays

The academy organizes at least two or three short tours every year. One is in April or May, and one is in September or October. It is also a Chinese tradition to go out when the weather is nice. The tours are normally somewhere nearby. We have organized student trips to visit the Ancient Yaowan Town, the Luoma Lake, the amusement park, Zhangshan Forest Park in Suqian, Huaguo Mountain in Lianyungang, and Yunlong Lake in Xuzhou, etc.

A trip to the original Shaolin Temple is also organized annually.

Our students will have a few days to relax from training during important holidays, such as the Mid-Autumn Festival, the National Day of China, Chinese Lunar New Year, and Western Christmas. You can make use of the holidays to visit some nice places in China like Beijing, Shanghai, Guilin, etc. We will also celebrate the holidays at the Academy with holiday decorations and an elaborate, celebratory dinner feast.

Other Activities

Since we are the only kung fu academy in Jiangsu that accepts foreign students, our students are often provided with opportunities to participate in (stage) performances and competitions. Performances and competitions can be anything from local to regional to national or even international. Straing in October 2014, every year our academy gets invited to attend an international stage show organized by the Jiangsu government and the largest regional TV station (JSBC) in Jiangsu.

As our Masters always say: it is very beneficial for a kung fu practitioner to perform in public and to participate in competitions. This is not only a way to demonstrate your kung fu achievements, but also a way to build personal character and confidence.
